Developing a Wood Grain Finish with Powder Coating
Enrico Piva, Decoral
This session offers a brief history of how the idea to develop a wood grain finish with powder coating came about, how the process works (step by step) and explain advantages versus using different technologies (such as lamination and hydro graphic which are currently used to create a faux wood grain finish). Enrico will also present all the most important laboratory tests (UV, corrosion, hardness, chemical, etc.) and real exposure tests (South Florida) they have done on the finish to meet AAMA and Qualicoat specs for architectural and outdoor use. He will also show pictures of applications and projects that their Decoral licensees realized in the last year both in the USA and abroad. Last, Enrico will bring actual decorated samples and discuss how they are opening new markets and great opportunities for all custom coaters in the USA. Case studies of current Decoral custom coaters will also be discussed.
Eco-Friendly & Green Powder Coating Stripping Solutions
Sam Miles, Miles Chemical Solutions
This session will explain how you can remove cured power coating from rework powder coated parts, thereby reducing scrap, while increasing coating throughput. Safe for use on all metal substrates.

Carbon Footprint Study
Chris Reding, DSM Powder Coating Resins
In addition to the economic and performance benefits, it has long been intuitively understood that powder coating is a low carbon footprint coating technology. This prevailing view is now supported by a comprehensive analysis, sponsored by DSM Coating Resins, which takes into account all of the elements involved in the coating process. The study covers the analysis of 11 coating formulations including powder coatings, waterborne industrial alkyds, and solvent borne polyester and acrylic based high solid coatings. The results of the study, independently validated in conformance with PAS2050 Carbon Footprinting standards, will be presented to inform and equip attendees with a credible resource to strengthen the compelling argument to choose powder coating.
Project SOS Specification Software
Rodger Talbert, The Powder Coating Institute
Project SOS was designed to provide the custom coater with an electronic program to help define the methods needed to achieve a certain quality standard with a specific substrate. This program will be demonstrated at the Custom Coater Summit.
What's New in PCI

New Technology in the Powder Application: Surface Imperfections, Where They Come From and How to Eliminate Them
Scott Landgraf, In-Line Sieve
InLine Sieve will be discussing new technology in the powder application field. This technology works with your existing application equipment to deliver a higher density with lower velocity powder cloud. This new technology also properly conditions powder at the point of application, improving quality by reducing surface imperfections and gun surging while increasing transfer efficiently.
