As announced at our last Annual Meeting, and with the direction provided by the membership, PCI outlined a strategic long term plan to focus on specific areas to grow our association and to more clearly focus on our mission: The Powder Coating Institute is committed to serving its members by promoting the benefits of powder coating technology. And, as part of the strategic plan, the PCI Board of Directors (BOD) developed the following strategic statement: Driving Sustainable Powder Coating Industry Growth.

As part of this longer term plan it was clear that as an organization, PCI needed to be focused and equally strategic with our resources. These resources primarily include our member volunteers as well as the administrative management. In order to focus our efforts, we have agreed to focus on five key objectives in line with our mission: Infrastructure, Membership, Education, Promotion and Certification. A critical part of this plan development is to consistently measure the directives and activities in relation to these key objectives and in accordance to the PCI mission.

A detailed evaluation of our current committee structure and their activities determined that better coordination and communication is needed to channel our efforts and ensure a consistent, aligned effort with our mission. The current committees have been very active in accomplishing many individual objectives. However, many of the committees were having to work without getting consistent guidance from the BOD or the Association. As a result, our current structure is not fostering good cross-communication with other committees that may potentially be working on similar projects or activities.

The following structure was developed to consolidate the committees, the reporting structure and to allow for more consistent, prioritized direction as recommended by the BOD. The main goal behind this new structure is to make sure the goals of the committees are clear, and hopefully gain participation. In addition, we want to provide a more concrete structure and direction for the association and committees and also ensure the generous voluntary resources of the association members are being utilized judiciously and coordinated with the resources from our administrative team, as directed by Trena Benson, PCI’s Executive Director.

Each of these committees will have a vice-chairperson, appointed by the committee chairs, to support the various committee activities. By getting more active members involved we can have better division of the responsibilities while providing better oversight within the committees. It is also a great opportunity for more members to develop their potential with added training or coaching by the committee chairs. In the long run, committee members have the opportunity to grow and develop into future chairpersons and future PCI Board of Directors candidates.

In this structure, it is the responsibility of the chairpersons to cross-communicate with all of the other committee chairs. There is a very clear overlap of activity that affects each and every committee.
