Description

Adhesion and Scratch Resistance of Powder Coatings Using Progressive Load Scratch Testing Webinar

The mechanical properties of powder coatings, such as scratch resistance and adhesion are all critical parameters relating to the durability, functionality, and toughness of the cured coating. Adhesion is usually measured using the mandrel bend or crosshatch test. While these methods have been in use for several decades they have many limitations. All these tests are subjective and can yield results with high variability. It is highly influenced by the operator’s interpretation of results.

Progressive load scratch tests address these limitations and provide several other advantages. These instruments can be used to test a wide range of materials including powder coatings. This presentation details the test setup and results from progressive load scratch tests on acrylic, polyurethane, and blended powder coatings.
