While the standards themselves are not enforceable, they are the basis for the fire, building, and insurance codes used by the Authorities Having Jurisdiction (fire officials, building inspectors, insurance agents, etc.).

Your knowledge of the standards will help you do the things that keep your employees and property safe, your insurance rates low, and reduce your risk of an unfortunate incident on your finishing line.
